First of all is a typical hyped up docudrama, but if you get past that point, just looking at it momentarily, the Xanax was snorted, not a typical way one takes it legally, which increases its immediacy into the system even faster than Xanax already is a fast uptake agent and is much more powerful than Valium in that regard. Second of all mixing it like that with alcohol is what can kill with benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines taken on a regular schedule, with one adjusted to it are not deadly agents other than one should be careful with heavy machinery until one is sure with the agent. They replaced barbiturates for that reason.

Basically mixing lots of benzodiazepines with alcohol though, which is partly the subject of this piece, is a danger if one is not used to the agent, and one takes enough of both, which I won't go into for obvious reasons, but causes respiratory depression, or collapse of breathing and comatose states.

Taking Xanax as directed by your doctor and avoiding much alcohol, is perfectly fine, for its purpose.

Still I recommend less powerful and more long acting agents such as Valium for long term use. Again, I think I've said this before, sometimes Xanax is necessary for a disorder. In this case, being prudent and careful with alcohol is obviously wise.

Sometimes videos are fabled on youtube. Usually they need alot of money to produce a believable one. They have ads for the next presidental election that are fake. People freaked out, the story was on Jim Leurer. (if you vote for hilary it will be like the book 1984!). And the ad made it look like Obhama endorsed the whole thing.

Someone may be anti psych drugs. And wanted to make the phrase 'xanax is the crack of benzos' appear appollingly true.

ok, well this woman i dont know. This is more like drug addict, like behavior. In the interviews.

Xanax for me relieves anxiety, i cant say how many times it has saved me from panic attacks.

Oh well i thought this would be some eye spotter for people taking Xanax.

I didn't watch it yet. I will later when I have time.

In my experience, the quote about Xanax being prescibed relatively easily from male docs to female patients might hold some truth.

I was thinking about this the other day. Right now I have a male doc and sometimes see his male PA. I think, in general, males are sympathetic and protective of females. It's their nature. They want to help us. They don't want to see us get hurt.

Females, on the other hand, are different. We tend to judge each other with a bias. There's that little high school girl inside our heads that scews the way we treat each other.

I've never had very good treatment of empathy (not looking for sympaththy) from female docs/NP's. They've been tight-fisted and cold. It's somewhat understandable. Females need to be tough and earn their spot in a previously male-dominated field... somewhat like law-enforment and business and politics.

Now that I think of the gender bias, I think I am definatley bias. I always prefer male teachers, bosses, co workers, doctors, and the list goes on. I whine/bitch/moan alot less when the males play the parts. Maybe I dont feel I have to compete with other females? Not sure.

OK, now that I've watched it... ughhh...

Their making it out to be a lethal party drug. Yeah, it can be when you snort it and take other illicit drugs and drink alcohol. They mention people using it to "come down" after a night of partying. I assume the night of partying involves drugs, which they think goes without saying (mine involve Mich Ultra... so snorting, shooting up, etc. don't come to mind when I think of a night out.)

It's sad that they feel the need to put stories like this on tv. It's not the Xanax that is hurting people, its the way they are using it in conjunction with other drugs, by itself, or with dangerous behaviors. Taking Xanax as prescribed for an anxiety disorder is not going to kill you.

I agree with you. Notice how after dying while partying it's Xanax that gets the blame not alcohol. I've never felt a buzz from Xanax. What's all this getting high all about? I'm sorry I don't believe it. As they say the fatal dose of X is the amount required for asphyxiation, unless you're fooling around with other CNS depressants like loads of alcohol, and certainly mixed with GHB could be fatal. "Partying" could mean anything, but they only mention Xanax. Don't worry I say. Take the prescribed amount and be very moderate with alcohol. Why are they picking on Xanax which is a Godsend for panic sufferers?

When I first heard them say the kid died of a Xanax overdose, I was thinking, what?! It's nearly impossible to OD on a benzo. There are drugs to reverse the effects, and most likely you'd just sleep for days. The problem comes in when you mix in alcohol or other drugs, because you can cause enough CNS depression and stop breathing.

Well i mean it depends really on the person....

People abuse amphetamines which are used psychiatricly, and also now benzodiapines.

So it can be a drug that can be abused, since it is amung the drugs that alter the brain chemistry immidaitly.

Exactly. If anyone remembers Karen Ann Quinlan, who took valium and drank alcohol, ended up in a coma for years until her parents finally pulled the plug.

Valene our age is showing wasn't it NJ? And then she ended up living with out the respirator to everyones surprise. You cannot OD on a benzo. Love Phillipa ps in her case it was the addition of alchohol.
