I just got an email from a friend in the US who tells me he found compounding pharmacies are willing to prepare the original Nardil formulation for people who find the new formula ineffective. He asked me to spread the word here on Babble, so there you are.

What do you mean? Make it in pill form, or liquid form? And you can get it from USA or elsewhere? Do you have a link? Thanks, Michael

They'll make it up in pill form according to the original formulation. It would make no sense to give you a liquid, since there's no doubt the new Nardil contains the right amount of phenelzine, it's the new pill with its different binders and lack of hard shell that some people think may be causing it to dissolve too quickly in the stomach.
You should be able to get it from a compounding pharmacy in the USA, with your doctor's consent. I don't have any more info, I'll ask my friend where he found out about it.

I know a compound pharmacy can also provide discontinued medication...since nardil has not been discontinued, and has only been modified to remove potential allergins, I cant see how this would be possible. Also, the FDA considers many compound pharmacy meds illegal, since a "new" drug would be created.. i could be wrong... I HOPE im wrong! I wonder how much something like this costs?

Q knows someone who can do it, but would rather send us the info via email rather than a link where anyone, including Phifzer ppl, might see it.

Q I had an idea. If you have heartburn, your dr will prescribe Losec or famotidine as proton pump inhibitors. These dramatically reduce stomach acid. Would taking one these (as I do) enable the new formulation to survive the stomach and get into the gut?
