general question, i've been on .5-2mg doses of alprazolam/aka/xanax, for 3 months approx. I wonder how many others believe it can simply exascerbate depression, amotivation, anhedonia etc...
supposedly the triazolam ring has a serotonergic influence; i.e. more of an antidepressant effect over other benzo's; though i wonder how potent the gabaminergic downregulation/tolerance is on dysphoric mood.
anyone have personal experiences to say that it actually contributed to a worsening of affective states?
i.e. anyone feel simply better w/out benzo's. specifically alprazolam?

No works better and faster for me than the other benzos. Could it be a paradoxical effect? Do you really need it? Love Phillipa

At first I was better on tranzene as it helped the anxiety but it appeared to make my sleep unrestful. I was on it over a ten year period and after one year of the doctor raising my dose from 7.5 to 22.5 it made me depressed and I couldn't get any restful sleep. After taking many months of weaning and periods of worse depression when going off I started to feel better. Strange thing I slept about 9 hours when weaning off but felt horrible in the morning. I was on remeron at the time so I think it was helping my sleep. REM rebound bigtime when weaning off tranzene.
I have just stopped a two week trial of Klonopin and it was making me worse and when I would get to a time of day when I believe it was washing out of my system it made the anxiety worse than when I started it. I stopped it two days ago and am feeling better. I had to take Ambien the last two nights and when it clears my system the same type of anxiety arrives but not as bad as klonopin.
I believe these are all GABA drugs and I guess maybe they are not for me. I have never tried xanax but since the half life is shorter I assume it would make me very anxious too when washing out.
This is my difficult because I am not sure how to start an ssri with this problem.

Funny but as the day goes on I feel better as the drugs get lower in my sytem drink a lot of water. Hence why I want the short acting. Stopping the lunesta tonight and cutting valium more I am beginning since I started the xanax to see the difference again. For me it has a mild antidepressant effect. Love Phillipa
