I am Bipolar and take 300 mg of Seroquel (a recent switch from Zyprexa and seems to be working to control my major symptom that presents - rage), 100 mg of Lamictal, 1 mg of Rivotril (Clonazepam/Klonopin) and 10 mg of Lexapro. I have been suffering from depression for quite some time (I miss my mania, just feel flat but I know I do not want to be manic, but still...), no motivation, mild agoraphobia, just not wanting to go out into the world. I asked my PDOC to switch me to Wellbutrin but she decided to raise my dosage of Lexapro from 10 mg to 20 mg. It's the only SSRI that doesn't cause sexual side-effects but I have my suspicions that it is doing nothing for my depression. You know like when something like Zyprexa doesn't cause weight gain for some it's not likely working? That sort of thing. I'm interested to hear how others have found Lexapro as an anti-depressant. Did it work for you? What is your diagnosis and what dosage do you take, along with any other meds you might be on. TIA. I want to feel better TODAY!

Lexapro just gave me more anxiety. Why do you say that if you don't gain wt with a Known med for wt gain that it's not working? Metabolism varies. Love Phillipa

Hi Phillipa, thanks for responding. My PDOC told me that in her experience if there is no weight gain with Zyprexa it usually ends up that it isn't working for that individual. I gained 25 lbs over the year and Zyprexa was certainly working. Unfortunately I developed muscle rigidity and had to switch to Seroquel. But I'm glad to leave the weight gain of Zyprexa behind, I'm already losing weight on Seroquel. I am hoping that it continues to work as it appears to be. Now I'm targeting how to relieve my depression. I am supposed to stick to a higher dosage of Lexapro (10 mg to 20 mg) for 6 weeks to see if it helps. I hate this waiting period. I need inspirational stories that it worked for others. Because I can have an orgasm with this SSRI unlike the others, I'm suspicious that it isn't working. I've certainly been low for quite some time at 10 mg. Crossing my fingers that the change to 20 mg will do the trick. Otherwise my PDOC said she'll switch me to Wellbutrin. But that is weeks away. I want to feel good NOW!

Hi Phillipa, yes Seroquel is known to cause weight gain but so far my appetite has been nothing like it was on Zyprexa and I'll already lost some weight over the past couple of weeks on Seroquel. Let's hope that continues!
Anyone have any Lexapro stories??

I am on my 3rd time round of Lexapro. It has always worked for me. I have been dx'd as BPII; for certain mostly depressive, not nearly as much mania. I also take Lamictal and Seroquel for sleep. Lex has never failed to work for me with virtually no side effects. I'm one Lexapro fan!

Theres a list: In order from day to night.
Lamictal 100mg
Quasense low mg
Abilify 2.5mg
klonopin 2mg
Xanax when needed 1mg
Seroquel 100mgThe lexapro did trigger mania for me, but my doc still mentioned going back on it....it may be because its cheaper? The mania would be a daily thing severly depressed, then go out to be the life of the party. But I drank this summer on it, so that did not help. It would be more theraputic if yoga was more social =). Im sort of a hermit at times...but when I have a project, like painting to do, I want to be alone.
PS what are you taking for Bipolar?
