So the FDA is recommending this new form of amphetamine be schedule II. Interesting.

I wonder if Shire expected this? I believe they almost deserve it.

I mean strictly from a profit aspect it seems their R&D resources could have been much better placed. I'd think there would be a much larger market for people with ADHD who can't tolerate amphetamine or other currently available treatments, than those who can tolerate amphetamine and are at high risk for abusing it.

BTW, does anyone know if this new formulation is racemic or just altered d-amphetamine?

Later...Saturn.

if i understand correctly, its just dex bound with lyseine. Nothing special. This drug kind of struck me as an utter waste of time--however, odds are, even if its schedule II, and crazy expensive (especially versus generic dex), docs will probably rx it as if its something new and amazing. Prescription drug markets don't seem to follow the normal patterns that demand some sort of innovation or...something.
Still, it'd be nice if the FDA would schedule III a "real" stim. I mean, Didrex is schedule III, but its a diet pill, so no one really thinks to use it for much...if they'd just relax things on ritalin or some other stim, then I feel like more people who might benefit (people on pain killers, lethargic depressives) might be able to get ahold of helpful meds.

Ill stick with my malinkrodt generics, even trying to market this is lame. "Safe" for sure untill some 19 year old college chem student figures out to defeat the safety mechanism in less than 5 minutes.

Strange, isn't it?

And they certainly will. Which will give even *more* incentive to abuse it, perhaps were there even wasn't one in the first place. Unreal.
