Prozac AFTER Emsam-washout?

Posted by bch on February 12, 2007, at 21:22:42

I took the emsam patch off 5 days ago. I understand the prozac to emsam washout because of prozac's long 1/2 life. But would it apply the other way around?

I have googled but cannot find out about the opposite.

Anyone have any knowledge about this? My pdoc does not seem to "up" on this stuff and I try to do my own research, just to be sure.

I really need to start back as soon as possible, if for no other reason than to know it will not work again.
Thanks!

Good question. I would think two weeks but wait for other responses. Why did you not like EMSAM? Love Phillipa

Don't know, but I guess it makes sense that either way you don't want them to interact.
fyi - I just talked to my pdoc today about starting Emsam & he thinks a week is enough time for the 'washout' period.

Thanks,
My pdoc is not overly cautious either, and I think 1 week is okay for most ad's, except for flouxetine (prozac) which requires a longer one. I did look on the emsam insert and it says 2 week washout for everything AFTER discontinuing emsam, so I guess I will go by the rules UGH!
Phillipa, emsam had some benefit after 2 weeks, but I was soooo mean to everyone. It was similar to how I was on Wellbutrin, and by sifting thru the archives, I think I don't like the norepinephrine, I like the seretonin, and that is why the prozac kept me at least functioning for years.
Thanks again. This board is the only thing that keeps from feeling absolutely alone in this.

After taking prozac it's a five week washout because of prozac's long half life. After emsam it's a two week washout before starting an ssri.

Why not play it safe, to be sure the Emsam is totally washed out so you don't mess with even a small risk of a seratonin syndrome?
