Seroquel is probably the most sedating of all the atypicals, except maybe clozapine. So..Abilify is probably the least, except for some people who get really sleepy on it. Risperdal...varies, depending on dosage, but usually not too bad. Geodon...tired-inducing, but not as bad as seroquel. Zyprexa...can be used as a sleeping pill; usually makes people drowsy, but its a 1x day deal so its not as bad for daytime as geodon or possibly seroquel.

seroquel == sleepy time for me. been taking it for a while. used to take risperdal but stopped because I gained too much weight on it.

I take 100mg of seroquel and am totally zonked two hours later.

Geodon and Risperdal were the worst. Geodon messed up my vision, made it blury, its still a little blury even though I've been off it for over a month, but vision has improved since being off it. Risperdal was bad because it gave me dilusions, and made all my muciles stiff so I was tense and and unable to move, then I was running around the house raising my hand in the air to make a statement. Pacing back and forth. Eating.

Geodon was a little like an antidepresant.

abilify did not make me hungry except when I was taking that only at a high dose. Taking it with zyprexa has been the opposite, not making me hungry, and being more sensitive to people, its activating, but makes anxity not better and maybe worse.

zyprexa is great for anxiety, calming, straitening out thoughts, slow racing thoughts, eases mental pain, but makes me eat too much, raises blood sugar, so I take as little as I can.

I've never tried seroquel, but it does not sound good from what I read.

Seroquel did nothing for me. Except- it made me have an insatiable hunger. I was on it for 6 years. I went from 200 lbs. to 350 lbs. No matter what I ate I gained weight. I ended up with diabetes and other related illnesses. I did do the eating, so I take responsibility for my part of the weight gain. But- even when I tried to control my eating, I still gained weight. I was taken off of it completely in Oct. 2006 after a few month titration down from an insanely high dose. Since the titration began in July, I have lost 120 lbs with diet and exercise. Another thing to consider is that the withdrawal from Seroquel is horrible. Sleepless, restless, weird suicidal thoughts that I had never had before... It was hell. I'm currently coming off of Effexor. So far- it has been uncomfortable. I'm down from 375 mg to 75 mg. It probably doesn't get better from here. Sorry if I got off topic. But none of the things I've just written seem to make much sense when I tell me friends. I guess I just wanted to vent a bit and give a warning about Seroquel.

I'm sure zyprexa will do the same in high doses. when I started zyprexa I was at 15mg, I sleeped 18 hours a day and ate a lot of mini wheats. they lowered the dose very quickly to 10mg where I did gain weight and sleep, but not nearly as much, Ie I could function normaly in life. Just gained about 70lbs in 5 years. Now I take 5mg zyprexa and 7.5mg abilify, 40mg celexa, and 300mg wellbutrin sr daily. This mix apears to work most of the time, my weight went down a lot. Some times 5mg z is not enough so I take a 10mg to calm myself. and the abilify still raises anxiety but acts like a diet pill, I think. My blood sugar is manajable with out medication.
