Hi
I wrote a while ago about my experience with Mirapex...it worked well for bipolar but I gained 10kgs on it in a few months....so i had to stop it.
This I believe is very rare occurrence with this class of drug (dopamine agonists)....although since my experience, I have found a handful of other people who have also gained alot of weight on mirapex tooMy doctor decided to try me on bromocriptine now in the hope that I would possibly get the benefits of mirapax without the weight gain.
Although they are both dopamine agonists, they have different mechanisms of working. I am hopeful that this slight difference will make a huge difference in the way I react to it.
Infact all I have been reading so far is that bromocriptine causes a decrease in prolactin and some weight loss (but only in PCOS or hyperprolactenemia which I don't think I have!)I don't know what to think- I am so scared to start this new one because if i put on another kg, I will explode! But at the same time I am feeling very very unstable :(
I feel like just giving up- I've tried so many many drugs and its just getting unbearable :(Thanks

Hi delna,
I have been on bromocriptine for some time, and have never gained an ounce from it. In fact have had not side effects whatsoever. Just FYI...
Good Luck!
