Hey was wondering if anyone has had positive response to gabapentin?? also know as nuerontin. I have suffered with recurrent MDD as well as anxiety, panic attacks, several personality disorders, and have found most ssri's intolerable. Always wondered if i have bipolar 2, as I have had some instances were i have lost touch with reality under high stress. Never tried it before but seems to help a lot of people. Any experience with it??

Didn't do much for me. I was definitely one of the people who found it to be more of a sugarpill than a miracle cure. It seems most people go one way or the other on it.
I can tell you the half-life is a pain. I started at 900mg a day, but due to the half life (5 to 7 hrs) I had to take one 300mg pill in the morning, one at lunch, and one at dinner/bed. That didn't do much so we tried 1800mg which a lot of people need to start noticing positive effects. That didn't do me much good either but I felt as though I was taking a lot due to the during the day dosing requirement.
If I had insurance I probably would have tried Lyrica which is stronger "cousin" to Neurontin (Gabapentin). That probably would have required less in the way of daily-dosing/total pills.
Don't think this is too helpful but noticed there wasn't a reply yet. Definitely wasn't a bad drug to _try_ at least, though.....no side effects. Guess that's the best positive I can give ya :)
Cheers,
-Jay

Neurontin can be helpful, but Lyrica is basically a new improved neurontin (much stronger). I would highly recommend Lyrica over neurontin. I have been on both, and got great results from Lyrica and very little help from Gabapentin. But this is just me. Good luck to you!

i find it helps me with anxiety--i have generalized anxiety plus social anxiety, quite severely and the gabapentin really helped me cope from the start. though also bipolar, i don't take it for that.
