AdderallXR 5mg made me feel so bad I couldn't believe what was happening to me. As it subtly came on, my depression got incredibly worse. It was so bad.
I do understand Adderall can have euphoric effects. I mean, it is abusable for a reason. Lots of people seem to like it. But for me, NOT!
No way I can do another dose.
I couldn't wait for it to wear off. I looked at the clock and thought, ok, just hang in there and survive for 3 more hours. As it wore off, I started to feel better and drifted back to my baseline depression.
Ritalin helps me out of depression on the 1st dose of the day, but worsens depression and anxiety on 2nd and 3rd doses. So I can only use it in emergencies and only once a day.
I feel so screwed. I'm actually starting to crave that numbed out feeling of ssris.

Yeah, I'm with you there.. I hate Adderall, with a passion, I used it a lot earlier this year for school purposes ( good for concentration though) and after a month of use, I crashed into the worst depression I have ever experienced, I am just now,8 months later starting to recover.
I read somewhere that amphetamines actually lower the BDNF in the hippocampus over time, and as I am sure you heard ( and I am currently obsessed with :) .. antidepressants, Lithium, exercise all increase BDNF expression in the hippocampus.. so although alot of people like them short term, they may not be so good for a lot of people who are susceptible to chronic depression..

Don't sweat it. Its doesn't help everybody.
Some people with a propensity towards depression with psychotic features tend to do very poorly on amphetamines.

This week a lot of posters seem to be adding ADD meds to their antidepressants. So link if you have a psychotic depression they won't work but make it worse? Love Phillipa

So spooky- sorry to hear about what happened, Blueberry.Does anyone know what on earth happened, how a single dose adderall could cause such a drop in a person's mood?

Focalin did that to me...the depression. I tried it for a few weeks and that never did go away. I can really empathize with you.

I sympathize with Jimmyboy. For me initially great, but after about a month, crashed into the worst I had ever been. (hence, the ECT)
Can you elaborate on this BDNF?

So sorry about your response, that it was so negative and that was from one dose of 5 mg, boy that was unexpected. I had such hopes that you would have improvements like I have been expecting from the stims.
I still want to try adderall again since i believe it gave me some relief when I took it with Celexa and Wellbutrin.
I'm starting to doubt all of what I thought would be helpful for me. Things that have worked inthe past are now not working and I'm running out of options.
Like you said, SSRI's are numbing but that can be a relief from intense suffering too, so I can see using them when you are in a bad place.

Yeah, I never really did know how to feel about amphetamines. Sometimes they were helpful. At higher dosages sometimes I turned more OCD. Sometimes they made anxiety better, sometimes worse, sometimes it was unchanged. I think it all depends, really...sorry it didn't work out :-(
maybe you should try opiates next.
