I have been on Emsam for 7 days. The first five days I had trouble sleeping at night, even when taking 200-400mg of Seroquel and two Benadryl tablets. The last two days, I have taken off the patch just before going to sleep, and taken 200mg of Seroquel and have gotten much better sleep. The pdoc emailed me today to tell me that it was fine to continue this. Just thought I would share this in case someone else out there was having trouble sleeping on Emsam. Thanks, Michael

I think it's awsome and inspiring how you are determined to give Emsam an all out fair trial rather than giving up on it before it has a chance to become fully therapeutic. Hope this new adjustment works out for you and makes the difference.

I'm encouraged to hear taking the patch off at night helps you sleep. I wonder if the bit of amphetamine metabolite from deprenyl being continually released through the night is what ruined sleep?
Deprenyl's MAOI activity continues for days after a dose, so I doubt taking the patch off at night would have any effect on efficacy. It would stop the introduction of new amphetamine metabolites.

Blueberry, yes I wonder too, how by taking off the patch it could affect my sleep. I mean some of these drugs, for example Prozac, take five weeks to expunge. So how on Earth can anything in Emsam give me almost instant relief by taking off the patch?
My guess: Just because. You know as I do, those docs know many of the meds work, and have theories why but really have no scientific proof. I guess that what Emsam does because thats what Emsam does. Ive read of others on here who take off the patch at night and get better sleep. Who knows?
Thanks for your input, as always.
PS Do you think Nardil will better address my anxiety?

Taking off the patch at night didn't work for me, Emsam stays in your system for days after removal. But everyone is different. Cecilia
