The new AP which isn't really new....
In the US, paliperidone (Invega) has just been approved as a new atypical antipsychotic for the treatment of schizophrenia. Unfortunately, however, it would appear that paliperidone is not particularly novel. Paliperidone is simply the major active metabolite of risperidone (Risperdal), formulated as an extended-release tablet.

I think big pharma did this back in the day, too, with metabolites of Mellaril being approved as separate drugs. Lame.

What scares me is that if just about all the docs were at all aware, they'd say, "hunh? why would I want to prescribe this stuff?" But they don't. I hope it is for some other reason than they don't know what they are doing...

Indeed, there was mesoridazine (Serentil).

here, here, docs seem to be indoctrinated with the supposed cures and vaccines for mental illness from antipsychotics, when all they are in reality are toxic tranquillizers. they don't cure and they don't prevent relapse, they don't correct imbalances they are just blatantly poisonous. surely they are last resort if you just want to tranq someone so much they don't notice their symptoms?
