Cymbalta in Canada?

Posted by Maxime on December 14, 2006, at 7:09:32

Does anyone know why Cymbalta wasn't released in Canada? It was suppose to be available in June 2005 ... but it's still not available!!!

I couldn't find it listed in the meds listed let alone covered by BC Pharmacare either, so I guess people like you and I aren't entitled to equal access to medical care considering the outrageus cost of this stuff
.

I don't even have to look at the link to know it's an online Pharmacy for Americans to buy the med from Canada! Go figure that one out!

To see if a drug is available you go to the following drug database on Health Canada
http://cpe0013211b4c6d-cm0014e88ee7a4.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com/dpdq/

I checked for Duloxetine and Cymbalta .. not available.

Sigh.

No, it's not available in Canada. I don't know what the hold up is. Abilify isn't available in Canada either. Drugs take longer for approval here. I wonder if we will ever get Emsam?

I would like to try Cymbalta!

Oh who am I kidding? It won't work anyway, just like all the other meds.

Here's the link again to check if meds are available in Canada

Nah, my doc has a chart on his wall to show where about to drill the holes to let the evil spirits out and a fine collection of rusty drill bits and chisils :)

What really cracks me up is that a doctor has to
get special permision to presribe Wellbutrin under the low income assistance plan because they are afraid that some of them will give it to thier patients to help them quit smoking. A little bit short sighted don't you think? The system could save billions if they could get everybody to quit! Unfortunatly politictions
of all stripes don't think past the next election cycle.

Yes cymbalta is just another SNRI, but the more drugs the better.

Apparently Canadians don't get depressed.

Sorry Neighbors to the North. My American health plan doesn't list Cymbalta on their formulary either. At least I can get it prescribed because you just pay a higher co-pay on a non-formulary drug on my PPO plan. People with HMOs here in the US can't get the drugs that aren't on their formularies so they're in the same boat as you.

I've always thought that universal health care would be better for us even with rationing, but I don't know about that reading posts from Canadians.

For me, I'm going to stick with my trial of Cymbalta because my other choice of EffexorXR left me numb from the waist down years ago, and it was a scary withdrawal. Even though I have to pay extra, I want to be able to perform and not go through h*ll if I get taken off this drug.

I know. :( But there are some people on a ED support forum who use it and they haven't gained weight. But know it can cause weight gain.

Okay, so there are a few meds that we can't get in Canada. But it's NOT that bad.

The Health care sucks though. :)

MB, I just want to thank you for being sensitive to my weight issue. It means a lot to me. I know most people don't understand and are frustrated by it.

You are welcome. My sister gained a good bit of weight on Cymbalta and I have been very reluctant to try it because of that.
