I sleep great. The sleep is a great escape. But right when I wake up, after a few moments realizing that I am up, I am overcome with anxiety. Anyone else have this happen? Any ideas on how to deal with it? Michael

I regularily experienced this after I had been using klonopin for sleep for a long time- I think it was because the klonopin wore way off by the time I woke up in the morning. My speculation is that perhaps it was a daily mini-withdrawal of some sort. It hasn't happened at all since I've stopped using it and have come off of it.> I sleep great. The sleep is a great escape. I used to have this when I had problems with anxiety and panic attacks. It was like something in my mind switched into anxious mode once it realized it was awake. The only thing I can say is that now my agoraphobia and panic attacks are gone, so is my anxiety. I still get anxious from time to time but it's not a big deal and I don't wake up and go into anxiety mode. I don't know if it was a *habit* that I unconsciously got into or what the actual cause was but I had that for a long time. Most days it would subside but during the real anxious times it was just with me throughout the day until I could sleep again.
Not much help there but I've been there before.

With me it's starting to affect the going asleep too as I say oh I will have to wake-up and then what. The same old thing. Trying to find things to fill the day. I know volunteer I'm working on not being afraid to even go to the grocery store first. Baby steps. So When I wake-up it's late and I instantly go into panic mode my warped thinking. As valium is still in my system. Love Phillipa

Just about every morning. When it happens, I take a dose of Xanax which is metabolized quickly. It works rapidly and leaves your system in about 4 hours. I don't need the Xanax after that. If I start the day out in a calm mood then I tend to stay that way.

I know its not recomended, but using any amount of klonopin at bedtime helps give me semi comfort in the morning.Aside from that, here is what i learned from my anxiety wakings,
Waking early is best,i seem to wake with energy in the early early am,and seem to have less anxiety when people are still asleep.I turn the tv on instantly, regardless if i care whats on,i hear the sound, and know its on,and i guess part of my mind is occupied on that.
Last i give myself anxiety time,i get away lay on the floor, not the bed, just relax, and let my meds work.If i wake later in the morning when people are up,the day has already begun etc,im very nasty, and anxiety through the roof.
My waking is usualy 6 am,tv goes right on,i take my meds, and im very functional, unfortunatly my problem is my med i actualy feel wear down in a few hours, anyway just some general tips, maybe even one can apply to u.

Yes that frequently happens to me or sometimes I wake up in a depressed mood. The best thing for me is to get out of bed and start doing things. Sometimes a half cup of coffee actually lifts my mood and gets rid of the anxiety or depression. But if I drink to much coffee than I get anxious again.
