What med for this particular behavior?

Posted by Colleen D. on December 12, 2006, at 19:37:53

It seems that all my life I have had a problem with the inability to concentrate, especially if I'm in an environment that I consider too stimulating...lots of noise and motion...and I have now developed a coping "skill" that I can't turn off. I talk to myself in a tone that is audible and annoying to others in my workplace. My manager has talked to me twice about it and I have to teach myself NOT to do it and then I fear I will not be able to concentrate at the level I need to to continue in my position. Is this a known symptom of any certain condition or disorder? And also what med(s) might help me? Or is this just a part my of depression-anxiety-social phobia-OCD combo? Any other suggestions from fellow self-talkers? Please don't tell me I'm the only one out there that does this!

;-)

Thanks.

Sounds like an ADHD coping strategy to me. Not necessarily a problem of its own. Do you take anything for ADHD? That is probably going to be your best shot and quieting yourself down.
