Posted by Borderliner86 on December 9, 2006, at 11:17:35

Hi

This seems to be a combination that people either really get on with or else find too stimulating.

For me it worked far better than the much hyped MAOIs.
I was on Effexor XR 275mg a day and not getting much from it other than insomnia, infact I was really depressed!
Added 30mg Remeron & felt a lot better the next day, stimulated but not anxious.

Did make me quite irritable & a little angry!

Should never have stopped, I was worried about weight gain, really stupid of me :(

Thank you for your input, my main worry is about being too sedated, i really want a stimulating combination so this might just do the trick. I have changed around meds so often that even if this combo of meds doesnt work im just going to keep taking them and accept my life was meant to be low quality. So did u use the extended release of venlafaxine or not? I am suffering weight gain on moclobemide and zyprexa. im sure its mainly the zyprexa, which i am being weened off at the moment anyway. its now only when needed.

i would think effexor xr would be the way to go...its a whole lot easier to deal with.

Have you thought about adding provigil or possibly other stims? Or maybe effexor+wellbutrin? The cali rocket fuel thing apparently helps people, but the remeron can be rough in terms of sedation and weight gain. They have dissolving remeron tabs, though--maybe those would cause less weight gain? ((the zyprexa zydis tends to cause less weight gain, and lower dosages are needed))

Anyway...hope it works out.

Hey thanx for the advice.
I live in australia where wellbutrin is not available as such, only as a stop smoking aid. It made me paranoid when i used it for that. Anyway the other downside about living here is that dr's dont just hand out any med u think u want, which means i have learnt to lie well. I will have to go to serparate dr's just to get the effexor and mirtazapine. My current pdoc thinks im still taking moclobemide.
I just read up about the provigil and it sounds like an interesting option. Perhaps it might even be a better option than an anti depressant all together. It's inhibition of NA reuptake is a worry considering venlafaxine does the same. im no expert tho...

personally, given the choice, I'd try Provigil alone or provigil + (small dose of AD of your choice) over these multi-AD combos.

Remeron+Effexor Sedation

I would just like to mention that I didn't find the sedation from Remeron to be a big deal when it was combined with Effexor.

This is in contrast to Remeron alone, which I find intollerably sedating!

Thanks for your advice. i am going to try provigil and effexor alone and will only consider adding a small dose of remeron if i have problems sleeping, which is highly likely. I was planing to do this to begin with instead of starting all 3 meds at once.

From what I understand provigil does not affect the uptake of norepinephrine. It was thought to act via norepinephrine receptor agonism, but even this has been disputed.

Current theories say it affects glutamate release (?)

Nice to hear from someone who has actually been on this combination. I am not sure whether i should start the effexor and remeron and add the provigil if im too sedated, or start the effexor and provigil and add the mirtazapine if i cant sleep well.
ideas?
