I know there is a lawsuit on Zyprexa. But what you don't hear is if the diabeties are from the weight you put on because zyprexa makes you hungy or if the zyprexa on its own creates diabeties.

Sebastian,

I think it is the Zyprexa itself which causes diabetes.

I gained weight during the first 3 months. After about a year it just dropped all by itself back to baseline. I am not overweight.

Blood sugar. Hmmm. That's a weird one. My blood tests have always come back fine. But, when I get up in the morning I am shakey and jittery all over, especially my fingers and thumbs. I noticed if I only sleep 5 hours it doesn't happen. If I sleep 8 hours its bad. I theorized that maybe my body was going too long without food and my reaction to it was very abnormal. So I did a test. I put a granola bar next to my bed. I woke at 3 a.m., took a couple bites, and went back to sleep. When I woke up a couple hours later, the jitteriness was very slight compared to what it usually is. Not sure what to think of that. I just did this test the other night and need to follow up on it.

After 10 years on 5mg zypexa, I think I do have some kind of weird glucose related problem.

Blueberry you probably have low blood sugar. Maybe a protein drink before bed. I drink a soy one. Protein lasts longer than carbs and stabaizes blood sugar. During the day they say every four hours a bit of protein, cheese etc. Love Phillipa

I've been taking zyprexa for 9 years, and now my doctor tells me I have Type 2 diabeties. Doctor gave me a glucose monitor and the only time my blood sugar is high is in the morning, I take zyprexa at night. I take blood sugar the night before taking the zyprexa and its normal or fasting, but in the morning after eating nothing since the last measurement and its always higher. So now I have one doctor saying stop taking the zyprexa, quite drinking, smoking and eating faty foods and exercise. It has to be the zyprexa. The whole rest of the day blood sugar is fine. What do i do?

Sebastian in this case I'd do what the doc says. What med does he want to substitute with? Love Phillipa

Its not my Pdoc its the GP. Told me that a med change is a good idea. I still need to talk to the Pdoc, wonder what he will say. Probably what do you want to do. The problem is I've tried all the others and only zyprexa works. But, zyprexa raises blood sugar, makes you tired to you need anouther pill to wake me up, then that pill raises blood pressure, so I need a pill for that.

I guess I can try Abilify or perpenazen or seroquel to geodon again, have not tried perpenazen or seroquel. Not sure I want to. Does seroquel raise blood sugar? Any more apinions on perpenazine. So if I take Abilify I will have massive panic attacks, so what can I take to counter that and let me sleep. Geodon just didn't fill the void of zyprexa. Probably none of them will.

I thinking I need off the zyprexa, but what about anxiety and sleeplessness, none of the other AP's work for that.

Ahhhh...Help!!!!

Well why change? They all seem to raise blood sugar, Abilify too probably. I will find out.
