MAOI?

How does one get a pdoc to prescribe a MAOI? I have been through just about all the SSRI's, SSNRI's and Wellbutrin. I responded very well to Wellbutrin a few years ago, but now (after taking a break from it), I am ALLERGIC to it. I am not sure how this happens? Currently, I am taking:

Cymbalta 60 mg
Ctyomel 50 mcg
Trazodone 50 mg
Klonopin 1 mg
Abilify 2mg (I just stopped yesterday due to increased anxiety)

I have asked for a MAOI to combat depression and anxiety; however, pdoc is concerned about the 14 day washout and wants to try all the augmentation stragegies first. I would like a more agressive "strategy" (even if that means I have to stay with my parents for 14 days to watch me during the washout). How can I convince pdoc to prescribe a MAOI? If I cannot get a MAOI, Remeron is next on the "list" and I am sooooo dreading the weight gain! :(

With the posts above in mind..

>Klonopin 1 mg

The addition of clonazepam was the starting point of recurring depression for me, but, a lot of things happened in my life at that time and I can't exclude other factors like stress and psychological pressure although it's appealing. I tried to wean off clon earlier this spring but when I reached 0.5mg I stayed there for a month but I realized that the anxiety and the SP was to much to bear and I had to resume with 2mg.

Looking back at my history, it's like my brain need new meds now and then. It's like I use to say, it's not that the meds don't work, it's that they stop working after a while. Is it the clon? I don't know, I just don't have time to find out. I take remeron and it has cetainly not prevented relapses. I'm not saying what's causing the relapses, I'm careful about doing that, the brain is far to complex to just point at a few receptors and say "hey, there's the problem!", MHO.

It seems wise to skip the Remeron and go for the MAOI if you can. I'm not sure how is best to convince the pdoc, but I wrote a post on this subject a while ago that may help.

Well Ed says Nardil is the best and that EMSAM may be too invigorating for me. But I like the idea of a patch you can see. And you can cut them and work up slowly. And take them off at night for help if you have insomnia. Love Phillipa
