Hi, Everyone,
OK, so apparently this is not a common side effect, according to my psychiatrist, but I just started taking Abilify and am on 10mg, working up to 20mg (with a bunch of other meds as well). I find myself at various points in the day getting what can only be described as a buzzing sensation at the top of my head, inside my skull ... it feels like a bunch of bees ... anyone experience this?
Thanks ...

What's your diagnosis . Sounds like a high starting dose. Love Phillipa

I don't know what your diagnosis is, or what else you're on but...do you need an antipsychotic? If you're anything but schizophrenic/schizoaffective, you might want to try a non-neuroleptic treatment route.
I don't know what this "buzzing" thing is all about, but it sounds irritating. Phillipa's right; 10mgs is a pretty high Abilify starting dose. You might try going lower (they make 2 and 5mgs tabs) and then slowly working up. Why are you aiming for 20mgs? The antipsychotic effects of Abilify are usually apparent @ 10mgs.
Good luck!

Thanks for the responses. My diagnoses are Borderline Personality Disorder (which means nothing, I know) with major depressive disorder with atypical psychotic symptoms. There is also a big question mark around bipolar disorder type II. *phew* We did start low with the Abilify (5mg) and are working up -- my understanding of the high dose is that my psych. wants to make use of the mood stabilizing/elevating effects of Abilify. I have proven to be very hard to treat medicinally, as my depression is resistent to a lot of typical treatments.
I am also on Seroquel (cross-tapering with Abilify), Lithobid, Klonopin and Nortriptyline.
This is the end of the thread.
