Provigil Newbie

Posted by lymom3 on November 5, 2006, at 13:49:16

I'm only on day 3 of Provigil. God knows I've been on a thousand different combo's of meds. I am currently dx'd as BPII; that dx has changed several times throughout the years. I do know that mood stabilizers have worked where antidepressants never have. Crying and irritable are certainly nothing out of the ordinary for me. They haven't been much of an issue lately because I've been so exhausted all the time.

New pdoc gave me Provigil to help me actually be alert. I'm not entirely sure that it helps that much. I know that it makes my heart pound much as stimulants or caffeine can do. Today the boo hoo's and pissed off are back. I can't for sure say it's the Provigil but it sure seems like it. The pounding heart is something that I'm half way used to because that always happens when I'm overtired. Instead of waking me up and brightening my mood it seems like it's just making me short tempered and making me anxious (best way to explain the pounding heart).

Will it get any better? Is it a breaking in period or does it just mean that Provigil isn't for me? I don't want to give up on it prematurely but I didn't think it was a med that needed a few weeks to work. This is a new pdoc that I'm going to; I don't want him to think that I won't give any meds a chance but at the same time I don't want to feel worse on a med that isn't going to work anyways. So..how long do I give it?

When I first started it, I was told it could take up to 12 weeks to tell if it was going to be my friend or not. It didn't take anything like that long, though, and I can't see how it would.

I guess my advice, if I were going to offer it, would be to call the doctor's office and say you're irritable and crying again, and should you continue taking it in hopes those will pass?

Good luck.

I agree it doesn't sound like a friend to me. Love Phillipa and please good luck
