There is a video at ScienceDaily.com (http://sciencedaily.healthology.com/epilepsy/video1968.htm)
I've never heard of this. Does it wake one up? Could I have seizures without my knowldge? I have EDS (excessive daytime sleepiness) and sleep apnea.
Anyone have any experience or info?
Thanks, RiverJulian.

A girlfriend of mine has seizures in her sleep. She didn't know about it until a boyfriend spent the night, and she woke him up. She doesn't wake up.
I can't tell you any more than that, because that's all I know. I would suspect the only way to find out if you're having seizures in your sleep would be to have a sleep study done, but there may be a simpler way. Your doctor should know.
Of course, sleep apnea can cause excessive daytime sleepiness. As can antidepressant medications, anxiolytics, etc.

What if the seizure was not grand mal and only a slight twitching of the nose, arm, or fingers? I don't think that would wake my husband up. I wonder if that could be my problem. Love Phillipa

Hi River,
I wrote a post about possible seizures in my sleep awhile ago on the Psychobabble board, though I usually only post on the Psychology board. It's either on the Psychobabble or medication board, I got kind of confused about where it ended up but I wish I could figure out how to send the link to you.
Anyway, I'm on Wellbutrin XL and have experienced seizure-like symptoms that I never had before I started on the Wellbutrin. Some people said it could be sleep paralysis but I'm not sure if that's a real thing.

I have a couple friends with similar experiences (although yours seem somewhat worse.)
This my contribution to thread about it earlier this year.
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20060304/msgs/617371.html
Oddly (or perhaps not), both friends were victims of sexual assault in their beds. One woman when she was a young girl... the other woke up being strangled and raped by her estranged husband.
I found your previous posting I think: http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20060919/msgs/688676.html
Hope things are better now. RiverJulian.

You would likely not have them without your knowledge unless you have a preexisting seizure disorder or you're taking sky high Wellbutrin or the like without benzodiazepines.
I assume the excessive daytime sleep is probably a part of sleep apnea. Do you use a CPAP?Flonase has been illustrated in children to slow obstructive sleep apnea.
I assume you've considered uvulectomy and palatine surgery among other more invasive options.
Sleep apnea is also exacerbated by weight and I have had much fewer incidents of daytime uvular enlargement (partially obstructive but annoying) with weight loss.

Thanks RiverJulian.
That is really interesting that you mentioned your 2 friends having been victims of sexual assault and experiencing this kind of thing, because I too was a victim of the same kind of thing that happened in my bed. I had never thought about a connection between the assault (although it only happened once, but still, it was traumatic enough) and the possible sleep-seizures. Thanks for the info.

I dunno. I don't do it often anymore. That I'm aware of.
But sometimes I'd wake up at the end of what I assumed was a convulsion of some sort.Like mebbe a giant full body twitch. I think the pain of biting my tongue would wake me up or something. I'd bite it HARD.
Then after ascertaining that my tongue was still attached and not bleeding too, too badly, I'd just go back to sleep.
This would happen only proly several times a year at most.
So I dunno?
