Hi,
I've been on Lamictal for four weeks. Two weeks at 25mg and two weeks at 50mg. No sign of improvement, and not really any noticable s/e, perhaps some weight gain. So now i want to raise to 100mg which is the titration rate that most sites/books recommends for depression, incl. the manufacturer. I think my pdoc mentioned 75mg for two weeks before going up to 100mg, is that really necessary? Even the pharmacy book doctors use here says 100mg from week five, anyone titrated slower than this(except those on other anti-convulsants)?

I would definitely take that extra step of going to 75mg for one or two weeks. I believe the main reason for this gradual titration is the risk of that bad skin rash - which is very serious but I can't remember the name of it - but also I found that as the Lamictal dosage was raised I was more likely to get a headache during an adjustment period. These headaches were intractable? untreatable? something that would not respond to any over the counter pain medication. They subsided after a few days at the higher dosage.
(I take 400mg/day now, having ramped up over the past 6 months from 200 mg/day, which was barely therapeutic for me. It is working well for me currently.)
Good luck,
ClearSkies

The rash that Clear Skies refers to is Stevens Johnsons Syndrome. And crazymeds.org gives a good description of it. And 75mg sounds reasonable to me. Love Phillipa

I will take 75mg to begin with and see how i reacts to it. If i don't get head ache, insomnia, rash or other severe s/e within a few days, i will then go up to 100mg. There 's some interesting reading on the page linked below, look at the graph at the bottom.
