I have been on Lexapro for the past 3 months and i have been having strange problems with my periods. And now i don't even have a period.
Is there anyone out there with this same problem.
Before on the med i was as regular and regular can be never missed a period only when i was pregnant. So i do blame it on the med. Please help.

Hello!
Well, anything's possible with these drugs. I haven't personally heard of anything going amiss with celexa/lexapro but its more common with drugs such as reboxetine or effexor. Reboxetine certainly did something hormonal for me - I broke out in acne, and my periods stopped.
Perhaps you could chat to your doc about this? I mean, missed periods could be anything (or nothing at all ie completely natural) so its hard to tell.
But some ADs do mess with hormones.
Kind regards
Meri

I recently posted that I stopped getting my period on Wellbutrin. I still don't want to stop taking it, because I think it helps reduce my appetite, which of course is a major eating disordered concern of mine, which could be another reason why I miss my menses. BUT, at one hundred twenty five and five feet four, I am not anorexic. The other strange thing is that I will get my period for a while on Wellbutrin, it seems I need to be on Wellbutrin for several months PLUS have some stress in my life.
But, have you been on Lexapro long?
I understand your concern--even if you don't want to get pregnant it feels really unhealthy to miss your period.

Well, I went to Dr today and he told me that Lexapro has nothing to do with me missing my period. I know my body and my tubes are tide so i know am not pregnant. From the very first time i took this medication i noticed my cramps were strange and then the 2nd month my period came early and now on my 3rd month i don't have a period. When before on the med i was like clock work with my period. I really feel this med is unhealthy physically for me but i need to work on my mental side (clear my mind). My anxiety is almost gone and my depression is much less due to Lexapro. I am also in intense therapy and he blames my missing my period to the stress of my therapy. But i have 2 boys and i have gone throught stress and never once miss my period. I didn't know that Lexapro or depression medication affected hormones, that explains it.
THanks for your support.

Hi Evie,
I missed my period 3 times in the last 8 months- major depression. Anxiety. Stress. etc. etc.Have you had any other somatic problems, like headaches, stomachaches, nausea, back pain? It may be that when your body is a little out of whack your uterus is just the most sensitive organ.
All in all, at least you're not worried about being pregnant! (trust me- THAT's no fun.)

(oh yeah, I'm on cymbalta for depression. and all kinds of other goodies...)

nope- pdoc didn't change my meds because missing a period is pretty common. depression messes up all kinds of hormones. It caused changes in my appetite, my thinking, my sleeping patterns, my concentration, my posture, the speed I walked, my digestion... made me feel pretty sick all over!
fix the depression, fix the menstruation problems (at least in my experience)
