sublingual Selegiline absorption time?

Posted by sound on September 5, 2006, at 5:40:09

If you crush your pills, how long do you keep it in your mouth?

Today I didn't swallow for 60 minutes and I think there could be a big difference compared with 10-15 minutes. I also feel 30-45 minutes would be enough.

I only took 5 mg though. If I take more at once, I think I will have to spread it around in my mouth because otherwise there will be too much in one place for efficient absorption.

Why do I say this? Because where as usually I got an awful taste resembling washing powder in my mouth when I finally swallowed after 15 minutes, I got none of the that or the acidic taste anymore at 60 minutes. Part of that effect probably comes from smaller quantities (5 mg instead of 7.5-10mg).

Bump.

I know many of you use selegiline. Do you all just swallow them?

You can certainly chew the hydrochloride tablets up and let them absorb, and the citrate drops will be fine without chewing. With the tablets it shouldn't take as long as you said, not if you chew them in a purposeful fashion. I always did that for some reason or other.

Right, Declan... so if you just did it for "some reason or other", then that implies there was not a massive difference in the effects between chewing the pills and swallowing them... or, for that matter, taking the citrate because you mention it very casually.

Do I make wrong conclusions?

You know, I've never swallowed a tablet of selegeline HCl. Always chewed them up, though of course the citate is a liquid

Like, why do I do it? With deprenyl/selegeline it was some completely irrational liking for the stuff. (Let's say I was taking Largactil, I wouldn't chew that.) It is stronger sublingually, but how much stronger I don't know and I'm not sure it is known. My guess is a couple of times stronger, but it's just a hunch.
Mainly I've taken the liquid citrate. I only ever took a couple of mgs a day.

Yes, that's what I was after for : ) Thanks.

You say you take only a few mg's of the citrate... is that because it is so much more powerful than the chewed pills or have you purposefully cut down on dosage as well?

I'm not taking any of either atm. The hydorchloride and the citrate should be equipotent. Perhaps the citrate is kinder on the system, as is said?
