Emsam itching

Posted by JOP on September 10, 2006, at 17:23:24

I’ve been using Emsam (6mg) for the past 2 weeks. While I haven’t experienced any noticeable effect on my mood, I am experiencing an increase in itching all over my body, not just at the application site. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same side effect? I’m beginning to think it might be an allergic reaction to Selegiline, which is unfortunate as I was hoping Emsam would elevate my mood but now looks like I might have to discontinue using it.

Are you rotating the sites? And hydrocortisone cream on the site reduces localized itching. I'd see a dermatologist before stopping. Love Phillipa

The itching is in no way related to the application site. I apply the patch near my clavicles (alternating sides every other day), yet I have severe itching on my legs, feet, hands, arms, back, face – everywhere but my chest. It’s quite frustrating as I think I’ve exhausted all my other options medication wise. . . . .

Maybe first you could try some oral benadryl. My pdoc says you can take it safely, and I've personally used it without problems. Good luck. I like EMSAM. /m

Hi, I have had the itching thing too. I have sensitive skin with the odd mild itchy patch breakout from time to time and I found selegiline (ensam) made it worse. I used deprenyl sublingual. I was using it at low doses and dosing morning only. The whole idea of sustained release all day seems doomed to failure to me. It really lifted my moods, but not without anxiety. I had to manage it carefully and have days off or else it just accumulated and caused anxiety and insomnia. Good luck!
