Best drug to reduce Sweating

Posted by FrequentFryer on June 22, 2006, at 23:06:15

Hey ppl.
I Sweat EXTREMLY badly after taking heaps of Anti-D's (even now in winter) I exercise heaps that dosn't help, I havnt even taken any Ant-d's for atleast two weeks now but the sweating still hasn't subsided.
Ive done heaps of research on the various Hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating) drugs including Bob's tips. Have tried Clonidine @ 0.2mg, Pindolol (beta blocker) and low dose TCA (which was a stupid sugestion) but havnt had any luck with any of them.
If Clonodine was going to work it should work after an hour or so of dosing yeah?
My Doc wouldnt perscribe me Terazosin either.

Has anyone had any luck with any of the other agents like:
Robinal
Ditropan
Xerac
benztropine
Biperiden
Cardura (doxazosin)

Also Maxim (roll on ethyl anti perspirant or something) didnt help. No transdermal solutions would be of much benefit because most of the sweat comes from my scalp.

Regards

Hi,
Without a doubt topamax is very good for reducing sweating... im not sure how it works but ive found personally and read in the literature that it has this side effect.. but its not exactly a benign medication.. but a low dose may seriously help u!

IMO, sweating is like sexual function, some canary-in-the-coal mine thing.
Every summer my shirts were wet with sweat (methadone).
It is such a relief to be finished with that.
Look after yourself.

I assume you've been through propranolol which people tend to use for "stage fright" and relaxes peripheral regions. Its summer though, you don't want to block a natural reaction (that is heightened by medication, of course, I understand) because its the body's way of cooling itself down.

Anticholinergics are usually contraindicated in warm weather if at all possible but you should talk to your doctor more about this.

^QUOTE^
"Sweat EXTREMLY badly **EVEN NOW IN WINTER**
The average ambient temp when Im working out @ the gym is about 17 degrees C (62.6 degrees Fahrenheit)
& I seriously sweat prolly almost half a litre in an hour.
When I walk out of the gym all the hot chicks are staring at me thinking "WHOH I wonder what that guys on."
Or they might be smelling my Pheromones and getting turned on.
Or they might be thinking "OOOO that guy sells bad"
Or maybe " Damn he must have been working hard"

I dunno... I really don't.... I guess all that matters is what I think their thinking... (if ya know what Im sayin.)

Nah Nah Im on the other side of the planet to you guys & its a tad chilly over here.
I figure the sweating will subside in 6 months to a year... But Id like to speed up the process for MY summer.

An anticholinergic like cogentin might help.

Did you say you were on SSRI's? As Ed_uk says he sweats horribly on celexa . The sweat drips off of him. I'm sorry what a dilemma. Do you bring dry clothes with you. At least then you can change them at least at the gym. Wait a minute I think I've heard of surgery to correct the problem. Maybe I'm delirious. Love Phillipa

Dear FrequentFlyer -

I've been on anti-depressant and anti-anxiety meds for about 10 years (currently: Effexor, Depakote, Paxil) and I sweat like a sieve. Effexor and/or Paxil is/are the main culprit, I believe. And it's a side effect that's most definitely NOT going away. It doesn't have to be hot and I don't even have to work out to end up drenching my shirt from front to back, not to mention feeling sweat running down inside my pant legs! I need to continue my meds, but I've endured this for too long. So I'm finally trying something to counteract it - Benztropine (Cogentin) - and just took my first daily dose of 0.5 mg. ten minutes before running into your thread! So I'll keep you posted - and good luck!

I will second that - I am on a low dose of Topamax - 30mg a day - 1 am, 1 pm - side affect is decreased sweating - also could present a problem in hot weather...Definitely works - I was dripping! - dripping from my face - horrible - nice moustache - and underarms - good bye SSRI Lexapro - staying with the good old and true Xanax (not extended release) PRN infrequent - and klonopin. Fed up searching. No more. This is as good as it gets. Good luck - Get the "sprinkles" 15 mg - I find Topamax very activating - many find it sedating - could never, ever reach a dose over 50 to 60 mg without klonopin coverage. Vision "tracking" and word recall difficulty - tingling in feet and hands - go slow, stay low, if it is for sweating - 15 mg/day. Drink a lot of water. Only my experience, of course.... Good luck -
