About 2 months ago I was on depakote for only about 4 months......at 1250mg daily. It really did not cause any weight gain at all. I tapered off that and have not taken that for almost a month now. I have taken Klonopin (heavy dose) for quite some time now, works great....and starting up lamictal, still only at 25mg daily for about 4 days now. I seem to have lost my apetite....Do any of these drugs, or perhaps the coming off the depakote, have to do with this?
Thanks

I find that everytime I change meds or doses, I have some amount of appetite change. Usually the change is decreased appetite (or no appetite, which happened on a dose increase once), although when I went on Effexor a few months back I was ravenous. It could just be the fact that you're changing and stopping stuff, but it could also be something you're taking. I've never taken Lamictal or Depakote so I have no idea if that could do it. All I do know is I always have trouble with my appetite whenever I make any changes. When I can't eat, I drink Ovaltine a lot to make sure I'm getting some amount of nutrition, sugar, and calories. Some people like to drink Ensure, same kind of idea. Taking vitamins is good too, but be careful not to let your blood sugar get too low (even if you're not diabetic or hypoglycemic, it is still important), which is why I suggest something like Ensure.

I'm taking both Depakote and Nardil which are both supposed to cause weight gain. Paradoxically all I ate for dinner the last 2 nights is 2 celery sticks. I'm just not very hungry anymore. At least I don't have to worry about my pants not fitting anymore.

thanks for the responses....as for the celery sticks, i wish i could do that! On top of having a huge apetite, (although I'm 6'7"), my metabolism is such that any bit of fatty foods, especially late at night will literally make a noticeable difference in the mirror. likewise, if i diet steadily for a month, i can easily lose 10 - 20 pounds in just that one month, and thats just a regular diet, not starvation. so my metabolism is a rollercoaster.

Sport Shakes might be good for you then, if you have a good metabolism anyway. Sports Shakes have more fat in them, and might sustain you better.
