I have suffered from bouts of depressions since I was a teenager. I am 40 years old now. In 1993, I started taking Imipramine (Tofranil) because I was suicidal. That seemed to do the trick until last year. I had my tubes tied and went off birth control pills. Ever since then, I have been struggling. I tried Zoloft which made me almost psycotic, so I went back to Imipramine. I became suicidal again earlier this year and Lithium was added. I could not tolerate the side effects of Lithium, so I was taken off. Now, my doctor is trying to wean me off the Imipramine and on to Cymbalta. I started at 30 mg Cymbalta for a week, then increased it to 60 mg. I have started having trouble getting to sleep. I also went back on the birth control pill to see if that helps. It has been at least a month at 60 mg and birth control and I am still having trouble with suicidal thoughts. I am feeling very frustrated. My doctor wants to raise the Cymbalta to 90 mg, but everything I read says that over 60 mg is no more effective than 60 mg. Has anyone found any relief on > 60 mg of Cymbalta?

yes, my Pdoc upped me to 80 and it made the difference for me. I do take klonopin if the cymbalta makes me too nervous.
