Does anyone out there have any suggestions for meds for me? For many years I have experienced depressive episodes at about twice a year that last about 3 months , usually start in late March and last through July and then again around October through December.. The symptoms always seem to be fatigue, lack of motivation, feel weak, anxiety, etc.. I have taken Serzone, Lamictal, Lithium, Selegiline ( just 5 mg), Zoloft, Wellbutrin, and none seem to work once the depression hits. Its almost like I just have to wait it out, but it always passes.. As you can imagine, this has been very disrupting top my life , so any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Jimmy

I know it has been overdiagnosed, but have you talked to your Dr. about Bipolar disorder? it doesn't have to manifest itself in wild mania but can be just cycling depressions (as I understand it and have thus been diagnosed and have found releif on meds for BP2). Do you have trouble sleeping? Ask your Dr. to ask you LOTS of questions!

If you wait until the depression hits and then it lasts 3 months, that means you'll spend half that time dealing with side effects and waiting for a med to work, if it is going to work. You might have to start medication before you get depressed as a prophylactic, kind of like some people do with seasonal affective disorder. And of course the tricky part, not just for you but for all of us, is finding the right one that works.
If you want to stay with antidepressants, prozac might be one to consider. Though it is in the same class as others you have tried, it is disntinctly different. Prozac offers you an easier taper off later on too, or you could even keep a maintenance dose going all the time at 10mg twice a week or so since it has a very long halflife.

This might sound horrible but if you know it goes in three months I would accept it and wait for it to leave. I would give a lot to know mine would be gone in three months it's been l0years and the meds don't work. Someone said the same thing and I don't think they are on meds . Maybe something like St John's Wart? Love Phillipa

Those symptoms describe me very much too. I've never had much of a diagnosis. No in depth questioning. Actually, it's more like I diagnose myself, then get meds for my ailment.
