Sorry Link I don't believe it. As lack of sleep makes depression worse for most people. Love Phillipa

Yes, an individual with chronic insomnia who sleeps very little consistantly is probably more likely to experience depression.
However, researchers have noticed, that if you take a severely depressed person, and keep them up the whole night, their depression often remits for the day.
The increased rate of neurogenesis after total sleep deprivation could be why. I don't think you'd see an increased rate of neurogenesis in people who suffer chronic insomnia.

This is the way I see it.
If you have chronic stress induced insomnia, then you're probably not going to see an increased rate of neurogenesis.
But if you're a depresssed person for whom sleeping isn't really the main problem, then you might experience an increase in neurogenesis and an antidepressant responce to sleep deprivation.
I don't know for sure.

For those who experience an antidepressant effect from total sleep deprivation, this may be a reason why.
