Diazepam has no effect whatever on me (neither calming nor depressing), even at 20 mg. Clonazepam depresses me above 0.75 mg/day.

Strangley enough I've taken Clonazepam and Diazepam
They are infact the only benzo's I've takenTo be honest they both seem depressive, the difference was that Diazepam isn't great for my anxiety.
Clonazepam worked good for anxiety, made me very sleepy thoughI'm a bit depressed by my response to benzo's to honest

I have! But I haven't taken either of them regularly. I found them similar. They both worked but you need a lot of diazepam to substitute for clonazepam. Clonazepam is so much more potent mg for mg.

Its hard to say -- they are similar over time but it is an individual thing. Also, if you are taking any medications that affect cytochrome 3A4 you're better off with Klonopin. This holds true for Xanax as well.

For me probably equally depressing, but still I'm leaning towards saying that Klonopin is slightly more depressing than Valium. The only benzo that wasn't, and even gave me that mild-euphoria benzos are apparently abused for was Xanax...but then nothing about Xanax lasts long enough.

thank you all for replying.
It seems that clonazepam has a narrow edge when it comes to depressogenicity.
In Japan and Europe, clonazepam is being actively researched as an antidepressant:
interestingly, these researchers seem to think that clonazepam has a preferential effect on unipolar vs. bipolar depression.
i should add that it has long been known that clonazepam and lorazepam are useful in treating acute mania. these researchers however seem to think that clon is mainly useful in unipolar and schizoaffective disorders.
i appreciate the feedback.
i was mainly curious, after reading these abstracts, as to whether these supposed 'antidepressant' effects generalized to other benzos, other than Xanax, which few describe as depressing. diazepam is the only other benzo that is prescribed as maintainance treatment afaik, hence my question.

Hi
these abstacts are interesting. I have taken Valium from 10-20mg and found it to be very depressing after a few days. But I take 1mg of Clonazepam for a long time by now find it to have an antidepressant effect. And whenever I try to cut back dosage I get more depressed the other day.
And well, according to the docs, I am unipolar (I am not sure about that)
This is the end of the thread.
