Does anyone know what happens if you mix the two? I bought some melatonin to try, but if it doesn't work I want to be able to fall back on the ambien. Any advice?

There might be an additive sedative effect. I have combined melatonin and sedatives and have not had a problem. If you taket the melatonin and it does't work, try just taking a portion of the ambien.

i wouldn't think there'd be a problem. Some of the benzos (like xanax) tend to decrease melatonin levels (this might be way xanax helps with depression, or at least 1 reason) but...other than that kind of interaction, I doubt there would be any problems. If you're severely depressed, you should probably avoid melatonin. Some studies have looked at it combined with Halcion (benzo that isnt used very much now) and the results were pretty good.
