If I had had blind faith in my pdoc I could have had a hypertensive crisis or maybe even be dead. I asked him about trying ENSAM he had no trouble with prescribing it for me. Said the drug reps hadn't been there yet. but he said he would give me a script then. Said to take my luvox cut in in half then start the ENSAM with no washout period. My pdoc said this. Thanks to ED_UK I learned there is a washout of two weeks just like parnate or nardil. Had I done what he prescribed I could have had a hypertensive crisis or even be dead. Glad for the knowledge I've gained here. Don't worry he will hear about it as my next appointment. Shouldn't he know about a drug before prescribinging it? Love Phillipa ps hopefully the pharmacy would have known and glad I am waiting for further responses.

Hi,
I think you really have to take your awareness to another level when taking MAOIs. I have been given misinformation by MDs and pharmacists while taking the meds. One pharmacist in Canada told me that a codeine cough syrup was just fine with Nardil. In very small print pseudoephedrine was listed as one of the ingredients. I didn't have my reading glasses and this got by me. Cost a trip to the ER and a $1000 CT scan, plus a pretty major hypertensive headache. The only person I trust any more is myself. It is my life, I'll do the research. Glad you did some research before filling your perscription.
Take care,

Some Pdoc's totally blow me away with their lack of knowledge about maoi's..among other things. Many people here know a lot more about maoi's then some pdoc's. I'm so glad you checked with Ed before starting the patch, your doc needs to be told...let him have it Jan! :) I do think you pharmacist would have caught this error, but you never know. When it comes to maoi's a mistake like this could be fatal...always be extra cautious, checking things out like you have been is good.
Love, Monte

Still researching because I don't want to worry about food restrictions although I don't eat anything on the list. Oop! I eat chocolate. But supposedly you don't have to worry about that on the patch. And if it is mainly for depression and my anxiety is my major symptom maybe I will need a low dose. And being able to see it and take it off means a lot to me. Savings account if I decide to take it. Love Phillipa

I'm very happy you did find out about the 'break' before it would have to late. I've been in the EXACT same situation than you lately: was on Nardil and were going on Parnate. I just mentioned PARNATE that my pdoc was doing my prescription. I asked her 'what about the 14 days break we have to take between the 2 ?' and she told me 'well, they are in the same class of meds, so you can start tonigh' (!!!!) just to show you how much it would have been dangerous to listen to her -> I tried Parnate after 7 days and my BP as burst up to 247 of systolic. What would have happen if I would have tried it the same day ? my guess is that I would be dead.Oh and BTW, just to test them, I also ask my pharmacist and the told me 'This are old infos.. I think you will be okay if you wait 3 days. No let's put 4 days to be ultra safe".
.... Take your time Phillipa.. In my case I wasn't even OK after 14 days! only after 17
