My pdoc is willing to trial EMSAM (hopefully at tomorrow's appointment), and I just don't want to say anything to screw it up. Would it be of any value to bring the FDA presentation showing the safety margin, or would that just serve to show up the doctor?

You could just say straight forward you want to try Ensam. If he wiggles or tries to suggest something else, just repeat again that you want Ensam and that's why you're in the office. Maybe no need to show up the doctor or anything.
Actually, most doctors are plenty happy to just write a script for whatever the patient agrees to. It is so hard for them to get patients to cooperate, so having one who already knows what they want makes the job easy money.

The one big but is that your pdoc is aware that you need a washout period of any ad or med other than benzos for two weeks. Mine didn't know that and had said to just stop luvox and start the patch. Thank heaven for this site the people here corrected me ASAP. My pdoc hadn't even had a drug rep in yet. Good luck!!!!!Love Phillipa

OK, I'll leave the FDA presentation and clincal trial info alone. Tactful honesty should do. I know the pdoc is aware of transdermal selegiline, since a 6mg dose was specifically mentioned via phone. I doubt I won't be able to trial EMSAM, since the others have long since been attempted, and I have been off anti-depressants for 13+ months, its just that I've been waiting to "believe", and I don't want to try <enter popular antidepressant here> again after it already didn't work.

How did you try ENSAM when it's only been released for a week or so? Was it for MS? My babblelight is on if privacy is a concern of yours. Love Phillipa

agree for the most part about docs not being impressed with the patients knowledge of medicines but I did find one that was & he is my doc now. he even said that I knew the drug better that the company rep that tried to give him samples which he promply turned away due to outright misinformation from the representative about the drug (Emsam).
I came prepared & the doc was actually impressed enough to prescribe selegiline to me as he didn't have any samples of Emsan as he turned the representative away do to the misinformation. The fact is it works for me & at low doses even as I found a way of taking it that give much of the supposed benefits of the patch. the only real difference is the drug is released into the blood very quickly instead of over time. the patch releases it very slowly.
This is the end of the thread.
