Posted by ben on April 15, 2006, at 4:32:32

Does Cymbalta have a dose related effectivness like Effexor? I am on 60 mg and wanted to know where you have found your effective dose.

I don't know if Cymbalta has the same sort of biphasic response pattern as Effexor. The ratio of concentrations necessary to inhibit the reuptake of serotonin versus norepinephrine are closer to 1:1 with Cymbalta.

I think it is reasonable to use 120mg as the maximum dosage. This dosage was used in quite a few of the investigative clinical trials. However, you really should give the 60mg at least four weeks before making any decisions.

Good luck.

Probably not quite... but as the previous poster said, one should wait a bit at 60mg -- its a subtle drug to build changes in your system.

Lilly doesnt really recommend things above 60 particularly, though as noted there are people on 120mg.

Also some insurances (I wont note) may not like to cover above 60, but that depends. But if approved, since they make 20s, you can increase with those.

I personally had some sort of epiphany at 80mg and am now at 90 with the insurance company erratically approving and disapproving the 60 and 30 (even though they get to collect two copays).

Yes I agree with both of the other posters. It's true the trials by Lilly said that doses above 60mg were no more effective than higer doses but they go up to 120mg. Fondly, Phillipa

Does anyone had success on more than 60 mg? I mean who felt much improved after going over 60 mg?

Actually, there have been some people here that did not get any benefit above 60mg. Some reports say there is no benefit above 60mg, while others say response rates are slightly higher. I saw at remedyfind that a guy didn't really get a great response until he got to 120mg. In one clinical study, those who had at least a partial response to either 60mg, 80mg, or 120mg, something like 80% of them were in remission if they stuck it out for 12 months. But I mean, that's a long time, yeah?

Hi Ben!

Yxibow takes more than 60mg and finds that the higher dose provides greater benefit for him.

I think if it's well tolerated, higher doses are worth a shot. I only tried it at up to 60 mg.
