EMSAM - HELP WITH INSOMNIA

Posted by EGAS on April 15, 2006, at 16:13:59

Hi,
I am new to this site...does anyone have
any suggestion for sleep with the Emsam patch. I halve not slept in 48 hours and can
barely function. Cannot take Ambien or Lunesta. I have had insomnia from EVERY
pill including MAOI'S over the last 25 years.
I am desperate, this patch was my last hope
for a possible life. Thanks very much!

Why can you not take Ambien or Lunesta?

Would you have the same problems with benzodiazepines?

A lot of people have success using trazodone or Seroquel.

Oh, no. Not again. This was why I stopped Parnate. On Parnate, I didn't even respond to sleeping meds. I hope this is not the case with EMSAM.

Thanks, Scott.
All benzodiazepines make my depression
worse after 1 night and I cannot tolerate the
awful taste in my mouth from Lunesta.
I may try the trazadone or seroquel again, but
those 2 never worked for sleep with other
MAO's, especially Parnate. I hope I can stay
on the patch long enough to get some therapeutic response. Hope you are doing
well!
Sue

The same thing happened to me on Parnate
which is why I stopped. I did not sleep for 1
month...GOOD LUCK, hope you can sleep!

What about ambien or ambien CR? No bad taste from them. I use them sucessfully in dealing with insomnia related to Nardil (and also a lifelong problem with sleep).

Hope you find a workable solution.

Thanks.

I was surprised the last time I took Ativan that I should become depressed the next day. However, I continued with it and the depression disappeared.

Sleep is very important I'd choose the ambien cr or lunesta or klonopin or valium they have a long half life. Fondly, Phillipa

I spent the first month on Parnate not sleeping at night, then fighting to stay awake midafternoon. But after 4 or 5 weeks, the insomnia just disappeared. I went to bed one night and slept, then never had a problem sleeping on Parnate again. I can't guarantee that will happen with Emsam, but if you can possibly tolerate it, give it at least a month. I realize it's tough, but it just could be worth it.
