Parnate and acne revisited

Posted by tygereyes on April 15, 2006, at 12:38:52

For those of you who developed acne on Parnate, how long were you off the drug before the acne went away? Did you use anything to make it go away faster?

I was on Minocycline for three months which had absolutely no effect on my skin and then developed a rash and had to stop taking it. I don't know if it would work now that I am Parnate-free but I am nervous about that rash and afraid to resume taking it.

I also have Retin A which has always made my skin peel terribly and my face bright red so I use it sporadically which I suppose isn't very helpful anyway; I think you need to use it every day to see results.

I've been going tanning for a few weeks; I remember tanning helped with my acne at one point. So far, no results.

I've also been using at-home chemical peels and microdermabrasion for months now which have had no effect.

Please help.

My Body Dysmorphic Disorder was bad enough before Parnate turned my skin into this monstrous looking mess of acne. There is literally not one inch of my face that is not covered by pimples. And I have NEVER had skin this bad. Never.

Hi Tiger,
Sorry you have to go through this. I'm thinking being off the Parnate will definitely help, but it'll take some time. I'd keep getting plenty of sun too...it really helps some people. Be very aware of your diet, drink a lot of water to wash out impurities and the Parnate. Try to eliminate all processed foods if you can, they are usually high in salt that has been iodized. I've also read that MSM lotion-found at health food stores can be helpful. Also, lots of Vitamin C (3000 mgs a day) And a high potency multi-vitamin. And last but not least see a dermatologist-i'm sure you already have. Take care, try to be patient, and good luck.

I want Accutane but no one will Rx it to me because of my history of sucide attempts. :(

You have my sympathies. Acne is awful!! I don't know what to suggest. I would say benzol peroxide has helped me in the past and also maintaining a strict skin routine. I now use clinque stuff and it works well.

I use 2.5% benzoyl peroxide on my face two times a day. I really slather it on. I got some good info on how to deal with acne from:

http://acne.org/

Check out the "Regimen". It really cleared my skin. I follow the "Regimen" and my skin stays completely clear. Before I used to break out every now and then. I made the mistake of only spot treating my acne. You have to apply the benzoyl peroxide all over, even the places without acne.

Benzoyl peroxide kills the bacteria that causes acne. Use a 2.5% because 5% causes a lot of peeling.
