EMSAM is COVERED by HMO Blue New England!!!

Posted by Enigma on April 14, 2006, at 13:32:20

I just called today, and it turns out than Anthem, BS/BS HMO Blue New England WILL be covering EMSAM, $30 co-pay for 31 day supply.

I'm sure other insurance companies will be doing the same, if they haven't already.

As depressed as I am at the moment, I still have to say I'm very "happy" about this.

MAOI's are the *only* meds that have ever been effective for my atypical treatment resistant depression. I was on Parnate and couldn't tolerate the side-effects, and Nardil as well, same story, but less side-effects. I'm hoping EMSAM will help me, as I'm fairly hopeless right now.

Take care.

... but at $50 for a month's supply because it is a "non-preferred prescription."

I called Asuris NW Health and my RX plan will cover Emsam with only a $40 co-pay.

Now I just have to decide if I want to risk going off my other meds (see my new thread below) before starting Emsam.

Aetna is Covering Emsam

I just checked the drug pricing page on Aetna.com and for my individual HMO policy, they're covering Emsam with a non-preferred brand copay of $35/month or $70 for 3 months by mail order. No precertification or step-therapy requirements either.

If my Requip experiment doesn't start showing some results, then it looks like I'm headed to Emsam.
