I'm now on Well XL 300 mg and Lamictal 300mg.
I've read (in one book) that Parnate and Well CAN be combined, even though the PDR says not. I don't think my doc will let me combine them, unless I can come up with more evidence that it's OK to.
Has anyone been on Parnate + Well ?Do you know of research that says it's OK to combine the two?

Hi.
> Has anyone been on Parnate + Well ?
Yes. I forget at what dosages, but the Parnate was at least 80mg and the Wellbutrin probably at 300mg.
> Do you know of research that says it's OK to combine the two?I really don't. I know that John Feighner, MD had worked with the combination in the early 1990s. However, I was unable to come up with anything pertinent with his name on it.

I was thinking that Well. might help with my Parnate weight gain and sexual side effects.
I have NO concerns about the Parnate diet (I'm still on it 3 years after stopping Parnate), and no concerns about med interactions -- except for epinephrine (would be nice to get in emergencies).

Hi
In an emergency, you could still get epinephrine. A low dose would be given initially, followed by repeated doses if necessary. The interaction between MAOIs and epinephrine is not generally very great.

Also, I assume that Demerol is an absolute no-no? So I've been told.

Hi F
>Yet I thought my doc said that an anesthesiologist (emergency surgery) might not be too happy with such circumstances. Correct?
They would be concerned no doubt......but studies suggest that the interaction between MAOIs and epinephrine is infact relatively minimal. Certain sympathomimetic drugs have serious interactions with MAOIs, but epi is not one of them. An experienced and knowledgeable anesthesiologist would be vital. A medic-alert bracelet might be a good idea.
>Also, I assume that Demerol is an absolute no-no?
That's right. An alternative analgesic would be used. Demerol has more side effects than most opioids anyway, so avoiding it is a good thing :) Morphine would be appropriate if an opioid was necessary. A small initial dose would be given under close supervision. It is not likely that an interaction would occur.

When i had surgery for my appendex the demerol had no interaction prior, that was fine and dand and i felt GREAT LOL.
After being assured that when i go home i can take my normal meds, upon a dose of parnate i noticed the begining workings of an interaction,i ceased parnate for a day and it subsided, however i felt had i continued on parnate my faith would have been different.
p.s sexual side effects, really parnate doesent seem to bother that area, except make me MORE sexual and pro longed you know.
