I am taking Prozac 40 mg and my pdoc just added Risperdal 1 mg. Is this a common combination? How soon should I notice a difference with Risperdal? Is one milligram enough to even make a difference? Any info is greatly appreciated!

1mg is definately enough to make a difference in the vast majority of folk. Just be patient !
Prozac + Risperidone isn't unusual combo....

Thanx for the reply...but wondering how long I must be patient...is risperdal like the prozac and it's gonna take 4-6 weeks or will I know if it helps sooner than that?

Normally I would advocate taking .25mg or .5mg to start. I think 1 mg may be too much for many patients. I am on .5mg, and that is for bipolar depression (!).
Give it ~5-7 days to evaluate the effects at a given dose.
The combination is common.

Generally AP's kick in faster. They kick in straight away for seep problems and (some) agitation problems. But for OCD, depreeion and other anxiety states I believe 6-12 weeks is a decent trial. Ofcourse you may have results sooner than this. But after 12 weeks if their is no change, drop it.
I must say Risperidone is an excellant and very powerful drug for a spectrum of problems. However it is also prone to cause the most s/effects of the latter day antipsychotics. My sister was on it for 2 weeks and for a good month she had a shaky jaw after ceasing it. HOWEVER we are all different and you may be perfectly fine on it. Just titrate slowly, but I believe 1mg is a good dose.
Good luck!
