Lamictal and EXTREME agitation

Posted by cache-monkey on March 16, 2006, at 20:18:46

Hey all,

I'm BPII with mixed-states/dysphoria/anxiety predominant, periodic depression, and possible ultra-rapid cycling.

I had a Lamictal trial about a year ago. There were some other side effect issues, but the main problem was increased anxiety/agitation, despite a relatively slow titration. This was during a very stressful period of my life, though.

I'm wondering if anyone had had this sort of experience with Lamictal, but ridden it out. Does it settle into something more stable?

Alternatively, has anyone had this kind of a reaction to Lamictal, discontinued and retrialed? If so, was it basically the same experience, or was it a little smoother?

Thanks for sharing,
cache-monkey

Hi,
I'm bipolar as well, not sure of the the specific diagnosis and not sure that it matters.... anywayz, i;ve tried lamictal as monotherapy and i experienced increased agitiation/anxiety as well... i believe this constitutes lamictal activating into the hypomanic side... lamictal gave me instant energy and insatnt agitiation and racing thoughts... then i retried lamictal with lithium and seroquel in the background and the same thing happened... this is common! go onto pubmed.com and check it out....
