Re: First week on Effexor xr

I was diagnosed by a phychiatrist as being depressed due to a work related situation. I was prescribed Effexor xr 75mg for a year. I started at 37.5mg for the first seven (7) days but decided to discontinue after six (6) days due to the initial reactions and after reading the available literature on the side effects.

I have not been able to sleep for more than 20-30 mins in total per night for the past five days/nights. When I do fall asleep - I have very vivid/intense anxiety driven dreams.

Additionally, I experienced strange bouts of night sweats and at other times a sensitivity to cold. I also experienced that feeling you get when you know that you are going to have "that vertigo" experience... the dizziness... light-headedness.... all in one.

Headaches and excrutiating abdominal pains, gross constipation and emotional instability were also other effects experienced ... All this after a mere six(6) days on half dose of my original prescription.

Is this familiar to anyone else out there?????

So... I decided that I was not soooooooo depressed to need to endure this and possibly more side effects ... for the next year...
