Agomelatine (Valdoxan) Newer AD!! Any Feedback

Posted by tizza on February 19, 2006, at 1:44:01

Has anyone heard about this or even tried it. Is it available anywhere yet? It is supposed to help DEPRESSION, ANXIETY and SLEEP all in one go. It sounds too good to be true!!!! It's not really related to any other anti depressant's currently on the market and apparently has no discontinuation syndrome (but we have all heard that one before!!!! ) If anyone has had any experience with this drug I would love to hear from you. Reguards Paul.
P.S. if the little bit of info I have read is true I might consider trying this if things go pear shaped in the future.

I agree with everything you say, Agomelatine sounds great! (At least on paper)

Unfortunatly its only going to be aproved in Europe in the near future, if at all.

The last I heard it was going to be aproved sometime this year, but I haven't heard anything recently.
Hope there isn't some problem with its aproval

"Valdoxan was discovered and developed by Servier. The drug is currently in Phase III and a registration dossier for an indication in MDD was recently submitted to the European Regulatory Agency (EMEA)."

Phase III trials are the final human trials before marketing, and usually involve around 5000 patients around the world. The EMEA is roughly equivalent to the FDA.

It is a MT1 and MT2 agonist (melatonin agonist) antidepressant. Servier doesn't usually submit that many drugs to the FDA from what I can recall. Who knows.

Another 3-6 months of trials and a probability statistic that it exceeds placebo and is safe and effective. Then Phase IV begins, after the drug is marketed. This is how drugs all get to the market, its about a 5-7 year process, unless its a fasttrack like a vaccine or an HIV protease inhibitor, etc.
