fighting Adderal comedown (depression/anxiety)

Posted by becksA on January 29, 2006, at 13:00:32

I love adderall for the most part for helping me out with my ADHD for homework, but as I get about 3-4 hours into taking it, i start to feel it wear off, and because of that, i get a bit anxious because I know that the nasty depressing, closed in, comedown is on it's way. What is the best way to ease this? (If any)

Thanks

I am pretty familiar with adderall's effects on mind and body cuz Ive taken it for a while now. I can try to help you, but I have a couple questions first: what is your dosage and also your age, and times of day you take med

I have somewhat of the same problem - my dosaging goes like this:

Adderall XR 20mg - 8am
Adderall XR 20mg - noon-1pm
Adderall XR 20mg - 5-6pm

Then around 9pm-11pm I begin to feel more anxious and feel my motivation, etc decrease. Then by the time I go to bed around midnight, my anxiety level is very high and it's very very difficult for me to get to sleep.

Jerry

irrigardless....

RedSoxFan79 -

I only take 10 - 20 mg as needed (usually once a week only), in the morning or early afternoon. I am 23 years old.

A magnesium supplement may very well do the trick for you. There is some research that shows adderall can deplete magnesium in brain. I have found it to significantly decrease the come down effects of adderall.

Also, something important to consider is that adderall causes your body to release more cortisol, which in turn spikes blood glucose levels. As the adderall effects start wearing off, glucose levels can fall sharply. So, its important to eat a healthy snack while adderall is in your system. Do not reach for junk food or soda, coffee as this will make anxiety/depression worse. Adderall does diminish appetite, so it may be hard. But small nutritious snack will definitely help. Things like mixed nuts or chicken casesar salad.

I have alot more things that will help, but you seem to be getting a good response at a very low dose and you are only 23 so I think these 2 things could be a big help for you. I am 26, soon 27 and have taken adderall for 6 years. I take 30 mg a day.

I do notice that if I eat something when I feel I'm coming down that I do feel better. Interesting...

Why is rebound so intolerable?

I wonder why stimulant rebound is the way it is. For me, the rebound period (when the blood levels of the med are declining) is worse than withdrawal (when the med has completely washed out). I wish I understood this better.
