Withdrawing from Depakote/Paxil and starting Xanax

Posted by CK1 on January 30, 2006, at 12:27:09

Hi all,
I have withdrawn from Paxil and am currently weaning off Depakote from 500mg. I've taken 250mg the past two days along with .5mg Xanax and notice that I'm very woozy and dizzy. I don't know if it's from withdrawel from Depakote or if it's the Xanax???
I'm moving on to benzo monotherapy as my depression solely comes from my anxiety disorder. None of the SSRI's help my anxiety anymore and it's time to start living again....

I know some doctors would disagree, but I personally like the idea of xanax monotherapy for anxiety based depression. Hey, compared to other meds, it is safe, uncomplicated, and cheap. Long term addiction? Geez, I think withdrawing from paxil is worse than withdrawing from xanax. My own experience anyway.

Your current withdrawals sound related mainly to paxil withdrawals. I don't know when your last dose of paxil was, but those woozy feelings can linger for several weeks. That was my experience with lexapro, zoloft, and paxil, but paxil was by far the worst and lasted the longest. When I withdrew from depakote, I got a little bit of that but not much. I don't think it is the xanax unless you are taking a high starting dose.
