i am trying to consider my options, however i figure i may want to avoid drugs that are overly AD-like, or at least seratonergic. i also want to make sure that they aren't too toxic, or cognitive dulling. (is it possible to take Topamax (topiramate) without the dulling?) i kind of also want ones that may not cause an immediate or gradual rebound withdrawl/relapse effect, as my tapering off the desipramine did. maybe there is some way to permanently shrink my stomach capacity.
anyways any recommendations would be awesome!!!
(including those that are atypical, especially those not involving typical neurotransmitter modes of action)(anyone noticed any beneficial effects from Strattera (atomoxetine) for weightloss/busting-carbcravings?

I took Topamax, and I did lose maybe 5 pounds, and I didn't really feel diff. about food. I like to eat, and I still ate carbs. BUT the side effects for me were pretty bad, and I was on a very low dose - 50 mg. Tried to go to 100, but got really depressed. Anyway, I had horrible muscle pains, stomach pain at 100, I didn't want to do anything - didn't go outside almost all summer - no motivation, my headaches weren't any better at all. I didn't have any dulling, but one thing I did notice that concerns me is that I had blood sugar problems while I was on it, you know like what happens to other ppl who are on some of the other anti-seizure meds. When I went off of it that stopped, and I didn't have it b4, so it had to be the Topamax.
I was on Strattera and at the lowest dose I was fine, had plenty of motivation, although it didn't help concentration a bit, or appetite - didn't know it was was supposed to do anything for that. When I went to 80 mg (I think), I got suicidally depressed. It wasn't like a black hole kind of thing, it was just very specific thoughts popping into my head out of nowhere, and then I got depressed and aggitated. Sheesh! And it didn't do anything to my appetite. I think I'm super sensitive to meds though, well, I know I am, and I tend to have a lot of anxiety.
Good luck, have you tried Wellbutrin?

yep tried wellbutrin, when it started to settle it really did improve my functioning, but that was for a few months, then back to the typical hypersomnolence and paralysis. it did help me lose a few pounds though. i've thought of trying it again, but am wary of how difficult it is to start (put my head through a wall one time), and if antagonizing nictonic receptors are any good for cognition.
