Wellbutrin causing low sex drive?

Posted by Ferris on December 20, 2005, at 15:30:18

Everything I have read on the internet says that Wellbutrin is the best medication to not cause sexual side effects ... but ever since I have been on it a few months I never even think about sex , I have not had a girlfriend during those months so it was not a problem. But now I do and sex never even crosses my mind anymore.

I used to be very sexual, thoought about it all the time.

Has any of you heard about Wellbutrin doin this to anyone , because every thing I have read has said the opposite?

Fer

Hi Ferris!!
I went off prozac 2 years ago, and onto wellbutrin, for the same reason, i was told it would help my depression, [which it did] and make my sex drive normal again, if not more so!!
after a month, with prozac out of my system for 7 weeks, i still was not close to normal, it actually hindered my sex drive!! i guess that is why on the commercial they say "low risk" of sexual side-effects, because there must be others like us who had the same expeience.

when i discontinued wellbutrin for 3 days everything was fine!! good luck...john

John... that is so good to hear b/c I was thinking I went on the SR version of it many years ago and I lost my sex drive too... But I thought I must be crazy b/c it seems to have the oposite effect on everyone else. Sucks to be us, but at least I know what the problem is. Thanks for the post ... looking forward to those 3 days being over!

Hi Phillipa, How are you?
i was as suprised as anyone, as was my doctor, it felt almost as stifling sexually as the prozac for me, and i had "Big" expectations for wellbutrin!!
hope you are doing well, your friend...john
