Hi. My doctor told me that the optimum time for using bright light therapy is between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. Does anyone know why? I use my light box later than that, and it still seems effective, although not nearly as good as spring and summer.

That's because it mimics dawn when you use it in the morning, and keeps your circadian rhythm in order.

Hi Ilene. Do you use a light box? Have you ever used the type of light box known as a "dawn simulator"? Apparently, the dawn simulators increase the intensity of the light gradually, rather than the "rude awakening" of the light boxes.

I've used a light box in the past to regulate my sleep cycle. I never used a dawn simulator--just a regular light box. It helped me wake up at a regular time, but it never affected my mood.

Hi Ilene,
Thanks for your help. I have noticed that light therapy helps, but it helped me more in the past than it does now. I think I'm using it too late. I'm going to look into the dawn simulators. I like the idea of a gradual increase in light. My cats like the light box!

I just started using a light box two weeks ago; I use it at 11 a.m. because by the time I get my kid's off to school and everything else in my morning; breakfast, coffee, treadmill, shower, that's the only time I have left.
Anyway, I can't say I have noticed any difference. Hopefully I will.
