Focalin is not going to be sold in canada?

"Celgene Corporation (Nasdaq: CELG) of Summit, New Jersey granted Novartis Pharma AG an exclusive worldwide (excluding Canada) license covering its intellectual property rights associated with Ritalin LA, Focalin and Focalin XR. Pursuant to an agreement between Novartis Pharma AG and Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation markets Focalin in the U.S."

They say specifically, "excluding Canada". Is this due to the poor reputation Canada has with drug companies now? Are there basically no plans to ever market the drug here?

my guess is that with most nationalized health care systems, there won't be much demand for "improved" drugs such as Focalin. Ritalin has been around since the 50s; generic Ritalin is available very, very cheaply. Since Canada also has Provigil and Dexedrine (and I think adderall now) on the market, I doubt there's going to much demand for an over-priced product that offers only minor advantages over the original drug. Also, the US is pretty much drug market #1 for more "hardcore" RX drugs--stimulants, benzos, etc. Particularly with stimulants, the US leads the way; since the overall market in canada is smaller anyway, I don't see why Novartis would even bother trying to sell their over-priced wares there.
