This drug will give you a very bad taste in your mouth the next morning.
I would just take what is prescribed untill you know how the drug effects you. I had sleep paralysis on this med, (scary) !

It's a twin drug of Lunesta. The standard dosage of Lunesta is 3 mg. I've never gone beyond 4.5, They've used somewhat higher in some of the studies. Maybe see what works first...~Jake

Is it more long acting than Ambien? Because with Ambien I'd never get a long enough sleep on 10mg. But then I'm benzotolerant.
I don't think barbiturates are much good, but it depends on your situation and your available options.

Hi Dec :-)

Yes, but it's still fairly short-acting.

Paul - My experiences with Imovane™ 7.5mg (zopiclone) is that it is a different from other traditional hypnotics, such as benzodiazepines, and barbituates.
For one, many people experience a foul metallic taste after ingesting the drug. It begins about an hour after ingestion, but is noticed by many upon waking, the next morning. This taste interferes with breakfast, as it seems to impart that mettalic taste to anything one eats or drinks (don't even consider downing orange juice). This metallic taste does not occur in everyone taking zopiclone, but those who do experience this side effect are fairly vocal about not appreciating winning this lottery.
One remedy that I have found that works in many, but not all cases of metallic taste, is taking a teaspoonful of lemon juice, first thing in the morning. This does seem, in many people, to "squeeze" the metallic taste out of the salivary glands. It's worth a shot.
Another difference between zopiclone and other hypnotics, that I have noticed, is that when you take higher doses of zopiclone (ie. two or three tablets, as opposed to one) one tends to become sleepy for a longer period of time, rather than increasing the intensity of the hypnotic effect. In other word, taking more zopiclone does not intensify the hypnotic effect very much, but makes the ingester tired for a longer period of time. This often results in a "hangover effect", where one will wake up groggy the next morning.
Just some of my clinical experiences with zopiclone; I hope that this helps. - Cam

Phillipa,
I've taken both Imovane and Lunesta and from my experience they are the same. Except dosages differ.

Basically the same as lunesta, but not as pure, and thus needed at a higher dose...lunesta (eszopiclone)3mg is about the same as zopiclone 7.5mg.
The metallic taste, if you get it, usually goes away fairly quickly. For me it only lasted two days and now it never happens anymore.
Eszopiclone works pretty good for me for antidepressant induced insomnia. I don't take it every night though.
One thing to watch out for with regular use is mood changes...anxiety in the afternoon, some agitation, mild depression, mild mania, or anything out of the ordinary for you. Probably won't happen, but keep an eye out. I think these kinds of things are more likely in people like us who have existing psychiatric problems to begin with.

Foul taste is an understatement, it's putrid, it didn't work that well for me and it gives both my sister and I pretty bad anxiety the next day. I haven't found anything better than mogadon.
